Smaller footprints keep the total down, and the per-square-foot rate is usually a little higher than a big open basement because the fixed costs of a project spread across less area. A Lyndon basement finished as one open room with good lighting is one of the better value projects we do.

Where the money is worth spending is the lighting and the storage, since those are what make a small space work. Framing more rooms into it is where it gets wasted.
