How recessed lighting installation works in a Louisville basement

We set the grid off the room rather than off the joists where we can, so the cans line up with the walls and with each other instead of following whatever the framing happens to do. Where a joist lands badly, the housing shifts or the trim size changes rather than leaving an obviously crooked line.
