Basement drywall
Moisture-resistant drywall is a useful product that gets sold as something it is not, so it is worth being clear about what it actually does.
The short answer
It resists humidity and mold growth on its facing, so it goes where that is the real risk.
It does not survive standing water. If a wall gets wet, the board grade makes no difference.
Running it across a whole basement adds cost without adding protection.
Four stages, in this order. Each one has to be signed off before the next covers it up.
We measure the real ceiling height at several points, find where the sewer line leaves, and check what the panel has spare. Basements do not photograph their problems.
You get it broken down by stage rather than as one number, so you can see what a bathroom adds or what dropping the bar saves. Free, nothing to sign.

The thing it protects against in a basement is ambient humidity. Warm wet summer air meeting cool below-grade surfaces is constant in Louisville, and standard paper-faced board in that environment will eventually grow something along the bottom edge.
Bathrooms and laundry areas, always. The wall behind a wet bar sink. Sometimes the full exterior perimeter where the basement runs humid in summer or the block has shown efflorescence before.
We do not sheet an entire dry basement in it. It costs more per sheet, and in a space with good drainage and a dehumidifier running, standard board on the interior partitions is fine. Spending that difference on better taping under drywall hanging and finishing gets you a visibly better room.
If water is getting in, this is the wrong conversation entirely. Board grade buys tolerance against vapour, not against liquid. We will say so rather than sell you upgraded sheets that fail anyway, because finishing over an active moisture problem turns a nice room into a mold problem.
Behind a shower is a different question again. That gets cement board or a waterproofing membrane, because moisture-resistant drywall is not a tile backer. It is part of basement shower installation.
